Why West Central Wisconsin?
FAQ's
The single most attractive characteristic of the region is its extraordinary natural
beauty. This has drawn people to return again and again.  Driving along the
winding Great River Road visitors may see some of the hundreds of nesting
eagles high in the bluffs that frame the Mississippi River valley. Along the way
there are dozens of villages, local eateries, parks, and historical landmarks to stop
and visit.  Many come annually to view the colorful displays of fall foliage or to
attend the many local festivals, artisan fairs and annual community events. Some
end up moving to the area on account of the beauty alone. Hundreds of miles of
scenic roadways, many lightly traveled and bicycle friendly are interwoven
throughout the hills and valleys.

Those looking for outdoor recreation need go no further. Sportsmen and women
will find the area excellent for fishing and hunting. Local counties are among the
best producers in the state for deer and turkey. Trout streams, some with native
stock, and other streams stocked annually with rainbow and brown trout offer
exceptional fishing. Dams on the Mississippi River are usually open year round for
fishing. Many communities have sportsmen clubs, some with private lakes and
hunting grounds.

In some areas of Wisconsin woods and lakes dominate. Other areas offer the
attractions of urban life, and still others the ambiance and special character of an
escape for those seeking a great weekend get-a-way experience. But while each
of these areas is a good place to visit, the opportunities for other types of
experiences may be limited. This is what sets West Central Wisconsin apart from
other areas -- the diversity of having some of all of the above.

For example, while the northern lakes area is great for the resort experience,
visitors to the area may find the absence of urban life confining.  On the other hand,
visitors to urban areas will be hard pressed to find a quiet retreat nearby. West
Central Wisconsin boasts the recreational, and cultural amenities found in other
areas, but without the limitations.
