Where IS West Central Wisconsin?
FAQ's

As one might expect, West Central Wisconsin is situated midway to the
northern area of Wisconsin, including some or parts of the following
counties: La Crosse, Eau Claire, Dunn, Buffalo, Trempealeau, Pepin, Pierce,
Monroe, and Jackson. Two major cities are La Crosse and Eau Claire.
Winona, Minnesota is just across the
Mississippi River. Much of the area is characterized by its “scenic driftless”
geography, a result of having escaped the retreating glacier formations of
the last ice age. Extraordinarily beautiful hills and valleys, called “coulees”
dominate the better part of the region.
The West Central Wisconsin area is bounded by the following approximate
dimensions: Beginning on the southwest the historic river town, La
Crosse, then northward following the scenic bluffs of the Mississippi river
valley to Interstate 94. From there the northern boundary traverses
eastward to the Eau Claire/Chippewa Valley area, gateway to Wisconsin’s
northern lakes region. Following Interstate 90 on a southeasterly direction,
the eastern border of the area is the heavily forested Black River Falls
region, home to hundreds of thousands of acres of state and county
managed forests. Continuing southeasterly on Interstate 90 to the
interstate highway “divide” at Tomah, Wisconsin’s cranberry “capital”,
Interstate 94 spurs westward forming the southerly border on a direct line
to La Crosse, closing the loop.
